For vendors using Usakey
Your plan and payments
Subscribe to, change, and cancel a paid Usakey plan, manage the payment method and invoices, and see what happens when a payment fails.
How plans and billing work
To get paid by the people who buy your software, see Sell with Stripe. You pay for Usakey from the Billing & plan screen in the console, on Stripe's checkout page. Stripe handles card numbers and other payment details; Usakey does not store them.
- There are four plans: the free Evaluation plan and the paid Personal, Team, and Enterprise plans. Limits and prices are on the pricing page. Prices exclude tax; tax is added as shown on the final confirmation step of the checkout page.
- The base price of a paid plan is billed monthly (one month in advance) or yearly (one year in advance). At the end of each billing period, the subscription renews automatically for the same length.
- Add-ons are monthly. They are billed every month even when the plan is billed yearly.
- Production devices beyond the plan's included devices are billed per device per month, in arrears. Usakey accepts up to 20% more devices than included. Once that is reached, new device activations are refused for the rest of the month; devices already counted that month keep working.
- Perpetual issuance credits are a one-time purchase used when you issue more perpetual licenses than your plan allows in a month. You can buy them only while you have a paid plan. Unused credits carry over while the paid plan continues and expire when the contract ends.
- Your billing currency is either yen or US dollars. It is set by the display language the first time you open the checkout page: Japanese means yen and English means dollars. It is set as soon as the checkout page opens, even if you leave without paying, and switching the display language later does not change it. Until you subscribe, the Billing & plan screen shows the billing currency under the Usakey plans heading. Usagee Inc. sells in yen; Link, Stripe's merchant-of-record service, sells in dollars.
Only the workspace's owners and admins can open the Billing & plan screen. Members and viewers see why and whom to ask. The commitments on prices, cancellation, and refunds are in Articles 6 and 7 of the Terms of Service and in the Specified Commercial Transactions Notice.
Subscribe
-
Step 1Open the Billing & plan screen
In the left menu, open Billing & plan under Administration. Usakey plans lists each plan's prices and a button to subscribe.
-
Step 2Choose a billing interval and subscribe
On the plan you want, choose the billing interval (yearly or monthly) and select Subscribe to this plan. If you have not confirmed your identity in the last 10 minutes, a confirmation screen opens. Use a code or passkey if you have two-factor authentication, or your password if you don't. Then select the button again.
You can't subscribe until you have accepted the latest Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. You can't buy a yearly plan and monthly add-ons in the same checkout. Add the add-ons after the yearly subscription takes effect.
You can enter a coupon code on Stripe's checkout page only when you subscribe monthly in yen. Yearly and US-dollar checkouts have no coupon field.
-
Step 3Pay on Stripe's checkout page
Enter a card or another payment method on Stripe's checkout page and pay. Usakey receives the payment confirmation and changes your plan. The checkout page stops working 30 minutes after it is created. An expired checkout costs nothing, so start again.
If you see Payment completed in Stripe after paying, Usakey is still applying the payment. Wait a few minutes and reload the screen. If Stripe's notice does not arrive, Usakey checks with Stripe every night and applies it. If the plan has still not changed the next day, contact Usakey Support.
-
Step 4If you come back from the checkout page
If you leave the checkout page without paying, the checkout stays open. Select Resume checkout to continue or Cancel checkout to stop. Only the person who started the checkout can resume it. While a checkout is open, you can't start another one.
Paid plans have a minimum check-in interval for policies (Personal 6 hours, Team 3 hours, Enterprise 1 hour). Intervals shorter than the new plan's minimum are raised to the minimum when the plan changes. If a raised interval would not fit within a policy's certificate lifetime (plus the network grace period, if the policy uses one), Usakey refuses the subscription or plan change before anything is charged and names the policy and the length it needs. Lengthen that policy's certificate lifetime first. If a policy that does not fit is found after the payment, the plan still changes. Usakey leaves that policy as it is and records a request to review it in the audit log.
You can't subscribe during a contract billed outside Stripe (unless Usakey's operators have opened a switch to Stripe; see below), in a closed workspace, or while the Terms of Service and other legal documents are under review.
Change your plan
Change your plan on the target plan in Usakey plans. Plan changes, add-on changes, and cancellations need a recent identity check, just like subscribing. When a change takes effect depends on whether it is an upgrade. From lowest to highest, the plans are Personal, Team, and Enterprise.
-
Step 1Upgrade to a higher plan
Select Change now and charge the difference. The change takes effect immediately. The difference for the rest of the billing period is prorated, tax is added, and the amount is charged to your saved payment method right away. No checkout page is shown.
If the upgrade also changes the billing interval, a new billing period with the new interval starts on the day of the change. For example, moving from Personal billed monthly to Team billed yearly charges Team's yearly price, minus a prorated credit for the unused part of the current period, plus tax, right away. If the credit is larger, it is not refunded but applied to later invoices. The next renewal date then counts from the day of the change.
If the payment for the difference fails or your card issuer asks you to confirm it, neither the plan nor the add-ons change until it is paid. Once you pay the invoice, the change is applied automatically. If it stays unpaid, the change is withdrawn after a while and you can try again.
-
Step 2Downgrade to a lower plan
Select Change on next renewal to schedule the change. It takes effect on the next renewal date, and you keep the current plan until then. The remaining period is not refunded. Before the renewal date, you can withdraw it with Cancel scheduled change. While a change is scheduled, you can't change add-ons or switch to another plan.
After scheduling, you can keep using the current plan's limits until the renewal date. If usage exceeds the lower plan's limits when it takes effect, existing products and licenses are not removed. Only creating new ones is refused until usage fits the lower plan. If a policy that uses a feature the lower plan lacks still exists at that point, the policy is kept but the feature stops working, and the audit log records a request to review it.
-
Step 3Change only the billing interval
To switch the same plan between monthly and yearly billing, select the button for the new interval, such as Change to annual billing at renewal. The change takes effect on the next renewal date.
-
Step 4Add or remove add-ons
Change the quantities in Change add-ons and select Update add-ons. Added units are charged right away for the rest of the period (prorated, plus tax). Removed units are not refunded; the credit is deducted from later invoices. You can't go below what you are using now. Setting an add-on to 0 stops buying it, and the plan itself continues.
When you can't change the plan
- Usage, such as the number of products, exceeds the target plan's limits. Reduce usage first.
- A policy uses a feature the target plan lacks, such as per-user licensing or Floating. Retire that policy first.
- An add-on is not available on the target plan. Set that add-on to 0 first.
- A cancellation or plan change is scheduled. Withdraw it first.
- A switch to a contract billed outside Stripe is reserved (see below). Contact Usakey Support to change anything.
- You switch to yearly billing while a coupon discount is active. Wait until the discount period ends. Changes that stay monthly are allowed.
Price revisions
If Usakey changes plans or prices in a way that disadvantages paid subscribers, such as a price increase, it notifies you on the service or by email at least 30 days before the effective date. New prices apply from the first renewal date after the effective date (Article 6 of the Terms of Service).
Once the switch to the new price is scheduled, the Billing & plan screen shows the new price and the renewal date it starts from. Until then you are billed at the current price, and the price field on the screen shows Price before the revision. You can't withdraw this schedule. You can still cancel, change the plan, or change add-ons as before while it is scheduled. If you change the plan, the new price of the target plan applies.
Payment method and invoices
-
Step 1Update the payment method
Select Update payment method to add a new card or other payment method on Stripe's page. The new payment method is used from the next charge. A recent identity check is required. If you come back from Stripe's page without adding one, the payment method stays the same. You can't update it many times in a short period.
To check the brand, last 4 digits, and expiry date of your card on file, select View payment method on Stripe in the Payment method section of the Billing & plan screen. Stripe's page shows the card. Usakey does not store card details, so the console does not show them. Opening Stripe's page also requires a recent identity check. When you are done, you can return to the Billing & plan screen from Stripe's page.
One month before the card expires, Stripe emails a reminder to the address that receives your invoices. When you receive a new card, update the payment method.
For a contract billed in US dollars, you change the payment method on Stripe's page. Update payment method is not shown, so open Stripe's page with View payment method on Stripe and switch the card there. If a payment has failed, open it with Change payment method on Stripe in the red box.
-
Step 2View invoice history
Select View invoice history to see up to 24 of Usakey's invoices, newest first. You can check the invoice number, service period, issue date, payment date, status, and amount, and open the details with Open PDF. If you use two-factor authentication, you are asked for a code or passkey first.
When an invoice is finalized, Stripe emails it. It goes to the email address of the workspace's earliest-joined active owner.
-
Step 3Pay an invoice that is due
For an invoice whose status is Payment due, select Pay to open Stripe's invoice page and pay there. If your card issuer asks you to confirm the payment (3D Secure), complete it on that page too.
When a payment fails
If the renewal payment fails, the subscription's status becomes Payment failed, retrying. You can keep using the current plan, and license validation in your customers' product apps continues. Stripe retries the payment automatically, up to 8 times over 2 weeks.
When a payment fails, Usakey emails the owners and admins and shows the banner Your Usakey payment failed at the top of every console screen. The email is sent once when the status changes to Payment failed, retrying; Stripe's retries do not send it again. Owners and admins see the Check the payment method button in the banner; members and viewers are asked to contact an owner or admin. Stripe does not email you about failed payments.
When you are notified, update the payment method. To pay right away, pay the invoice that is due from the invoice history. Once the payment is confirmed, the subscription is active again.
If your card issuer asks you to confirm a renewal payment (3D Secure), Usakey emails the owners and admins and changes the banner to Your Usakey payment needs confirmation. This email is sent once per invoice, and not in addition to the failed-payment email. Confirm the payment with Open the invoice to confirm in the banner or Pay in the invoice history. Stripe does not email you a confirmation request. If the payment is not made within 15 days, Stripe cancels the subscription.
If every retry fails, Stripe cancels the subscription and the contract ends. Usakey also emails the owners and admins that the contract has ended. What happens next is the same as when a canceled billing period ends (After the contract ends). The unpaid invoice is not voided and stays due, so pay it from the invoice history. To keep a paid plan, subscribe again.
Depending on Stripe's settings, a subscription can instead stop as Unpaid, service suspended. Usakey then emails the owners and admins as well and shows the banner Your subscription is stopped for an unpaid invoice on every screen. While it is stopped, license validation in your customers' product apps (Runtime API) and the Management API stop. Your data is kept, and unused perpetual issuance credits do not expire. Paying the unpaid invoice resumes the same subscription and plan.
You can also end a subscription whose payment has failed right away, without waiting for the retries. The same applies to subscriptions in Unpaid, service suspended, Setup in progress, or Paused. An owner or admin selects End the contract now in the End the contract now section at the bottom of the Billing & plan screen. The contract ends after a recent identity check and a confirmation screen. It then ends in the same way as above, and nothing is refunded pro rata.
When you end a contract whose payment had failed or was unpaid yourself, the owners and admins receive the email Your contract has been canceled. Unpaid invoices are not voided when the contract ends, so pay them. The email and the Billing & plan screen show that unpaid invoices remain and how to pay them. In the invoice history, select Pay on an unpaid invoice to open Stripe's payment page, and pay with any method shown on that page.
Cancel
-
Step 1Schedule a cancellation at the end of the billing period
In End subscription, select Cancel at period end and review the confirmation. A recent identity check is required. The cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing period. You keep the current plan until then, and no further charges are made. The remaining period is not refunded pro rata.
When the cancellation is accepted, Usakey emails the owners and admins.
-
Step 2Withdraw the cancellation
Before the end of the billing period, you can withdraw it with Keep subscription and resume renewal. The subscription then renews automatically as before. Usakey emails the owners and admins about the withdrawal too.
-
Step 3Return to the Evaluation plan from the next renewal
To stop paying and keep using the Evaluation plan, select Return to Evaluation from the next renewal. This is the same as an end-of-period cancellation: the workspace returns to the Evaluation plan at the end of the billing period. If the test products' usage exceeds the Evaluation limits, you can't schedule it, so reduce usage first with Reduce usage to the Evaluation limits. Production products are not counted.
You can't cancel while a plan change is scheduled. Withdraw the scheduled change first. Unused perpetual issuance credits expire when the billing period ends and are not restored if you subscribe again.
Canceling does not void invoices that have already been issued. If an invoice is due, pay it from the invoice history. Device overage is billed in arrears, so the last period's overage is charged after the contract ends.
After the contract ends
The contract ends at the end of a canceled billing period, when all payment retries fail, or when you end it immediately. If the test products' usage is within the Evaluation limits at that moment, the workspace returns to the free Evaluation plan at the same time. Production products stop working, but their data is kept, and they resume when you subscribe to a paid plan again.
If usage exceeds the limits, there is no active plan. License validation in your customers' product apps (Runtime API) and the Management API stop, and you can't issue licenses or change settings. Product apps you have already distributed stop allowing protected features from their next periodic check (see the product-side decision table in the developer documentation). You can still view your data.
Once the test products' usage is within the Evaluation limits, you can start the Evaluation plan with Start the Evaluation plan. If you subscribe to a paid plan again, you resume with the same products and licenses. Product IDs, the API URL, and SDK settings do not change. Right after resuming, preparing signing keys can take a few minutes.
Unmanaged offline perpetual licenses keep working after the contract ends, under the certificate terms they were issued with (Article 7 of the Terms of Service).
Contracts billed outside Stripe (by invoice)
For contracts billed outside Stripe, such as by invoice, Usakey's operators set the plan and the contract end date. The Billing & plan screen shows this message: This plan was set up without a subscription on this page. Contact Usakey Support if you need to change it.
- During this contract, you can't subscribe to a paid plan through Stripe from the Billing & plan screen. To change the plan or switch to paying through Stripe, contact Usakey Support.
- Check the contract end date on the Billing & plan screen. When that day is over (midnight Japan time), the contract ends and the workspace returns to the Evaluation plan if usage is within its limits. Otherwise, license validation in your customers' product apps stops. To continue, contact Usakey Support before the end date.
- Usakey emails the owners and admins 30 days and 7 days before the end date.
- This contract also accepts up to 20% more production devices than included. The Billing & plan screen shows this month's devices and how many are over, and the extra devices are billed on Usakey's invoice.
- When the contract ends, unused perpetual issuance credits expire.
Switching to or from a Stripe subscription
To move from this contract to paying through Stripe, contact Usakey Support. Once Usakey's operators open the switch, you can subscribe to a paid plan from the Billing & plan screen for 7 days. When the payment completes, this contract ends at that moment and the Stripe subscription takes over. Your plan does not lapse, and unused perpetual issuance credits stay usable. A plan that your current usage or policies do not fit is refused before checkout.
To move from a Stripe subscription to this contract, contact Usakey Support as well. Once Usakey's operators reserve the switch, the Stripe subscription ends at the end of its current billing period and is not billed again. This contract starts at that moment, so your plan does not lapse. While the switch is reserved, you can't withdraw the cancellation or change the plan or add-ons on the Billing & plan screen. To change or call off the switch, contact Usakey Support.
Closing your account or deleting the workspace
When the workspace's only owner closes their account, the workspace is closed too. You can't close the account while a paid subscription continues without a scheduled cancellation. First schedule a cancellation at the end of the billing period. Once it is scheduled, you can close the account before the period ends, but the workspace closes at that moment, the remaining period can't be used, and nothing is refunded.
The same applies to requesting deletion of the workspace. You can't request it while a paid subscription continues without a scheduled cancellation or while a checkout is in progress. The steps are in Data export and workspace deletion.
If the subscription is Unpaid, service suspended, end it right away before closing the account or requesting deletion. Closing the account or deleting the workspace does not void unpaid invoices that have already been issued. After the workspace is closed, you can't open its Billing & plan screen, so pay any invoice that is due first.
How double billing is prevented
- A workspace can have one paid subscription. Only one checkout per workspace can be in progress at a time. If two tabs or two admins subscribe at the same moment, the second is refused.
- Plan changes, add-on changes, and cancellations modify the same subscription. They never create a new one, so you are not billed twice. Changes to a subscription are processed one at a time.
- Subscriptions belong to a workspace. If you create another workspace and subscribe there, that workspace has its own subscription and charges. Cancel the subscription of a workspace you no longer use from that workspace's Billing & plan screen.
- You can also check the subscription's state (a failed payment, an unpaid invoice, a scheduled cancellation, and so on) with
GET /mgmt/v1/plan/billing-statusin the Management API and the MCP toolget_billing_statusfor AI assistants. Subscribing, changing, and canceling are done only on the console's Billing & plan screen.
If you don't recognize a charge or think you were billed twice, contact Usakey Support from Contact us in the console's account menu. Charges caused by us, such as duplicate charges, are refunded as described under refunds in the Specified Commercial Transactions Notice.

Usakey subscription and billing guidance
Use the Usakey MCP server and distributed skills for this task. First read the relevant skill VERSION, SKILL.md and references below. If the local MCP cannot serve resources, read the same files from the distribution ZIP advertised by the connected server. Confirm product, environment, language and existing settings; never invent missing values. Use the official SDK in product apps and never embed a Management API key. Keep management operations within the approved access and plan. Keep secrets out of chat, screens and logs. Write expected behavior as tests before implementation and report actual verification and unverified surfaces.
Check the Usakey subscription, quotas and payment status, then guide plan changes, payment methods, invoices or cancellation. Use MCP for available status reads; the user performs subscription/payment changes in the Console. Distinguish buyer billing from the seller subscription to Usakey.
